[edit] Early life and family
Pierre was just over three years old at the time of his father's death in a boating accident. He spent his earliest years, after his father's death, living at his mother's farmhouse in the quaint town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
He has two older siblings: Andrea Albert Pierre Casiraghi and Charlotte Marie Pomeline Casiraghi, and one younger half-sister, HRH Princess Alexandra of Hanover.
Besides French, it is known that he is fluent in Italian, English, and knows some German.[3] He also plays the saxophone.[3]
Pierre Casiraghi is third in line to the throne of Monaco, following his mother and brother.
[edit] Education
He attended a state school in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. However, after his mother's remarriage to Ernst August V, Prince of Hanover, the family moved to Fontainebleau, to be nearer to Paris and London, the latter being where his new stepbrothers lived with their mother.
It is assumed that Casiraghi passed the French Baccalaureate exam in the summer of 2005 since he shortly afterwards began university. One year later, in fact, he moved to Milan to begin a three-year course at Bocconi University. He is not known to have graduated.
[edit] Personal life
Once he was living independently as a student in Milan, the tabloid media, especially the Italian press, gave much attention to him.
The Spy column in the UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that he led a very opulent lifestyle with a GBP ₤2,000-per-month apartment in the trendy Brera district of Milan.[4] It is believed that he will use his economics degree towards learning the business of his father's companies, which are, in the meantime, being managed by his uncle Marco Casiraghi.[5]
Casiraghi was linked to a number of young women during his university years in Milan. He was photographed out and about with the fashion models Fernanda Lessa and Caroline Winberg. He was photographed countless times partying with art student Olympia Scarry and Alice Dellal, the sister of his sister's boyfriend, Alexander Dellal. Alice Dellal was believed for a time to be his girlfriend, though she went on record with a denial in an October 2007 interview for Nylon magazine.[6] But Casiraghi's longest and most serious romantic attachment to date has been the aristocratic and outgoing law student Beatrice Borromeo.[5]
[edit] Humanitarian and business activities
From 30 January to 13 February 2007, Casiraghi accompanied his mother on a humanitarian tour of Africa.[7] They visited Niger, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa on behalf of Princess Caroline's role as President of AMADE Mondiale.[7]
In June 2009, Casiraghi became the majority shareholder of the Monaco-based construction company his father founded in 1984. His uncle, Marco Casiraghi, remains in the position of President over this company, which is Engeco S.A. The acquisition of the majority shares to Casiraghi's name was handled by the Milan-based legal firm Bird & Bird.[8]
Casiraghi continues to reside in Italy, dividing his time between Milan and Rome.
