[edit] Recalls

Royal Canin recalled products on 20 April 2007 due to the presence of a melamine derivative in the rice protein concentrate in some of its dry pet food products.[4] The South African subsidiary stated, "We at Royal Canin want to express our support and condolences to owners whose pets may have fallen ill or passed away as a result of eating our food."[5]

[edit] Royal Canin in Pop Culture

A 80’s commercial for the brand is extremely famous in France for using "Chi Mai", a composition by Ennio Morricone. The relationship between the commercial and the music is so strong in the country that it is more closely associated with the commercial than with any of its other appearances in film and TV. In 2002, this association was referenced by the French movie, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, in a scene in which Dogmatix is chasing a legionaire running on all fours in slow motion (like in the commercial) while "Chi Mai" is playing in the background.
